{"id":44488,"date":"2026-06-19T11:45:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T01:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infrabuild.com\/?post_type=press_release&#038;p=44488"},"modified":"2026-06-22T11:47:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T01:47:23","slug":"new-steel-facility-to-service-western-sydneys-50-billion-infrastructure-boom","status":"publish","type":"press_release","link":"https:\/\/www.infrabuild.com\/media-releases\/new-steel-facility-to-service-western-sydneys-50-billion-infrastructure-boom\/","title":{"rendered":"New steel facility to service Western Sydney\u2019s $50 billion infrastructure boom"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>19 June 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Australian Reinforcement Company (ARC) has announced it will open a new steel processing and distribution facility in Western Sydney, capable of supplying 10,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel per year to support the region\u2019s $50 billion infrastructure boom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2,500 square metre facility in Milperra will receive reinforcing steel products from InfraBuild\u2019s steel manufacturing mills in Rooty Hill, Newcastle and Melbourne, before cutting and bending them to custom specifications for residential and commercial construction projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sean Mannering, InfraBuild\u2019s Executive General Manager of Distribution and Processing, said the Milperra site is one of six ARC distribution facilities in Western Sydney supplying more than 40,000 tonnes of steel to the growing residential market, with over 100,000 new homes expected to be built over the next five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s vital to be able to produce steel locally, cut and bent for local needs, and be accountable to our local customers,\u201d Mr Mannering said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen our customers are preparing to pour concrete, our steel has to arrive cut and bent, specifically for their program, at the exact time they need it. If it&#8217;s two hours late, or not the right shape, their whole program falls apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur customers chose us because we reliably deliver top-quality product. This new facility helps us ensure we can get reliable, sustainable steel to our Western Sydney customers precisely when they need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe opening of the Milperra site demonstrates our commitment to growing Western Sydney, as we prepare for the $50 billion infrastructure boom and over 100,000 new houses over the next five years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInfraBuild supports over 600 manufacturing jobs right in the heart of Western Sydney. We turn Western Sydney\u2019s scrap steel into brand-new reinforcing products to support construction of Western Sydney homes, hospitals, schools and stadiums.&nbsp;Our reinforcing bar products are made in Western Sydney, for Western Sydney, using Western Sydney scrap<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are ready to service Western Sydney\u2019s growing demand for steel. In addition to the new Milperra facility, we\u2019re also expanding our steelmaking capacity at Rooty Hill from 680,000 tonnes per year to 1 million tonnes per year by 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site opening builds on InfraBuild\u2019s growing steelmaking capability in Western Sydney, including its manufacturing plant that melts 100% recycled Australian scrap in an electric arc furnace, a process that is 75% less carbon intensive than a traditional coal-fuelled blast furnace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">InfraBuild is Australia\u2019s sole manufacturer of reinforcing steel.
